Advocating for an Appropriate School Placement & Related Services

ADVOCATING FOR AN APPROPRIATE PLACEMENT
AND RELATED SERVICES
This workshop is presented by the law firm of Hinkle, Prior, Fischer & Oberweis and sponsored by ASCF.
One of the most difficult considerations in special education is identifying an appropriate placement for a student. Many students who could excel in inclusive educational environments with some supports are placed in self-contained classrooms simply because of their diagnosis. Conversely, many students with complex needs are not referred to specialized out-of-district programs, even when their needs cannot be met within the district.
Parents will learn how placement decisions are made and how to respond when a district attempts to change services or placement or refuses to move the child out of a placement that is inappropriate. This 90-minute presentation includes a Q&A.
